The Russian Museum

This publication is based on papers read at the academic conference of the same name, held at the Russian Museum in 1998 and accompanying the Museum in a Museum: The Russian Avant-Garde from the Former Museum of Artistic Culture in the Collection of the State Russian Museum exhibition. The twenty-three articles were contributed by leading experts on the avant-garde.

This book is dedicated to the memory of Nikolai Pertsev (1902- 1981), a leading restorer who helped to save an unprecedented number of works of fine art of all forms and genres. The publication prints the papers read by Nikolai Pertsev at various academic conferences from 1949 to the late 1970s. The subjects of these works are the restoration of fresco painting and Old Russian easel painting. Also published are materials on Pertsev's work for the St Petersburg Inspectorate for the Protection of Monuments.

This publication is based on papers read at the academic conference held at the Russian Museum in November 1994 in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of academician Nikodim Kondakov. The book publishes new materials and documents on the life, work and public activities of this leading Russian historian.
