The Russian Museum

The compilation is based on materials of the academic conference of the museum devoted to the results of research work for 2005. It includes articles devoted to the results of researches in the field of Old Russian art, decorative and applied art, painting, graphic art and sculpture of the 18th v 20th centuries. The compilation also includes additional data on almost forgotten masters such as the artist M. Utkin, sculptors U. Svirskaya and E. Cheremisinova, P. Klodt-s archive in the Russian Museum, problems of research of wax portraits of F. Tolstoy and the others, the history of selected exhibits in the museum fund and new data on history of the Mikhailovsky and the Marble Palaces, St. Michael-s Castle and the Summer Garden. For the first time the compilation includes the list of icons from Petersburg temples, acquired by the Russian Museum from the Museum fund and the Hermitage in the 1920s; It contains the vocabulary of masters of wooden sculpture and iconostasis carving, who worked in the temples of the Russian North in the 17th century, including 78 persons; It introduces the full list of artworks from V. A. Kokorev-s collection, acquired by the Museum from Emperor Alexander III collection. Separate article is dedicated to Aleksey Savinov (1906-1976), well-known art historian, who was the Head of the department of painting of the 18th v the 1st half of the 19th centuries of the Russian Museum for almost 17 years.

The separate article is devoted to Georgy Smirnov (1905 v 1988), well-known critic, expert on history of the Russian painting of the 18th v the first half of the 19th centuries, who worked in the museum for over 40 years.
