S. E. YAKOVLEVA (1910 - 1993). PORCELAIN

03 December 2009 - 30 March 2010
Stroganov Palace

The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th jubilee of the painter, who was one of the creators of the well-known "Cobalt Net" paintings. Now it is the visiting card of the Leningrad porcelain factory. Alongside 100 works of porcelain from the Russian Museum collection (55 of them were specially presented by the Emperor Porcelain Factory) at the exhibition there are shown photos and porcelain works from the painter's family collection. "The Lotus" (1937) and "The Straight" (194-1941) sets for mass production were also created by Serafima Yakovleva. The form "Tulip", that was worked out in 1936, became popular for many decades with the "Cobalt net" painting (author - A. A. Yazkevich, 1946). After the Great Patriotic War Serafima Yakovleva was engaged in working out of the new forms of the sets ("Repka", 1947-1948; "Springtime", 1949; "Oriental", 1956; "Classical", 1968), sets for water and toilet sets, particular items (vases, glasses, goblets, bowls, carafes, plates, shtoffes, ornamental flowerpots). Yakovleva created the first so called "Chinese" vases in the history of the Russian porcelain, that were worked out on the base of the Old Chinese examples from the Hermitage collection. Porcelain factories make these vases with the paintings of different painters till now.
