The exhibition presents the oeuvre of modern St Petersburg artist Georgy Kovenchuk, displaying works of art created from the late 1960s to the present day.
After studying under Alexei Pakhomov at the Department of Graphic Art in the Academy of Arts (Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture), Kovenchuk worked as a poster designer, engraver and illustrator. He also painted canvases, created objects and decorated oyster shells.
Among the more interesting exhibits are Georgy Kovenchuk's works of 'fax-art' - graphic representations employing unconventional plastic means and the possibilities of modern telecommunications as variants of new artistic technologies.
Georgy Kovenchuk's oeuvre is noted for its rare versatility, irony and sense of invention. An indefatigable innovator, he is a universal artist with an innate feeling for other cultures.
Works by Georgy Kovenchuk have been acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum, Museum of the History of St Petersburg, foreign galleries and private collectors.
