The exhibition comprises about three hundred canvases by the renowned master of the Russian avant-garde. Pavel Filonov (1882-1941) v painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer. Contributed to exhibitions from the 1990s. The first decade of the artist-s oeuvre was marked by the creation of the ?Chant of the World Flowering ¦ cycle of painterly and graphic works. The plastic decision of the works still retained the forms of figurative painting. Filonov turned to abstract art in the early 1920s. Though the works of the late 1920s-30s were marked by the stylistic diversity of execution. The years of political repressions (1930s) were a gloomy period in the artist-s life. His art was officially neglected. Pavel Filonov died of starvation in the besieged Leningrad on December 3, 1941.The artistic heritage of Filonov was saved and preserved by his sister Yevdokia Glebova. In 1977 Glebova donated her collection to the State Russian Museum. The exhibition presents to the visitors such masterpieces by the artist as the ?Dairy Maid ¦(1914), ?Flowers of the World Flowering¦ (1915), ?Head¦(1925), ?Images¦ (1940).
