Vasily Sadovnikov (1800 - 1879) Bicentenary exhibition

29 November 2000 - 19 February 2001
Mikhailovsky Castle

Vasily Sadovnikov (1800-1879) was a leading Russian master of perspective painting. The artist was famous for his views of the Imperial Russian capital. His cityscapes combined topographic exactness with the poetry of the age of Pushkin. This is the first ever monographic show of Vasily Sadovnikov, comprising over one hundred works - landscapes, interiors and genre scenes - from the collection of the Russian Museum. Many of his works are exhibited here for the first time.
