For One Rouble of Admission's Revenue - Nine Roubles From the Cost of Museum Service and Auxiliary Economic Activities of the Museum

Goal:

  • systematic and well-organized development of all forms of auxiliary museum activities stipulated by the "Provisions Concerning the State Russian Museum" ensuring the success of fund-raising;
  • search and development of new sources of fund-raising
  • annual provision of no less than 40 % of revenue from fund-raising activities by 2008 (expenses on repairs not included)

 

Main Directions of Project's Implementation
  • further improvement of the economic development services (the department of fund-raising, Friends of the Russian Museum international society);
  • publications;
  • licensing;
  • merchandising: a net of museum shops selling souvenirs, printed video and audio production, highlighting images from the museum collection, handicraft articles etc;
  • development of a network of cafes and restaurants for the visitors located in the palaces and gardens of the museum;
  • photo services;
  • development of a network of electronic guides and other forms of information requiring payment;
  • postal services: "book by post";
  • organization of lectures and concerts on the premises of the Russian Museum palaces
Primary Projects:

Summer 1999 - development of the network of street kiosks with the arrangement of new trade areas in Mikhailovsky Garden.

May 2000 - creation of a new street trade complex on the Maple Alley (Engineers' Garden) considering the historical layout of the area and the tourist routes.

(Main task: - пattraction of the tourists travelling by cruise-boats whose programme includes only the bus city tour without visiting the palaces of the museum complex).

The revenue of the implementation of the project will cover the expenses on the new souvenir productions and widening of their assortment

By 2003 - creation of a whole network of museum shops in all the palaces of museum complex and their premises.

Extension of the area of the shops:

  • Stroganov Palace - 3 times;
  • The Marble Palace - 2 times;
  • St. Michael's (Engineers') Castle - 2 times;

Enhancing of the total commodity circulation - 16.5 times
