On 25 March 2015 the first European branch of the State Russian museum opened in Málaga, Spain, according to the agreement, signed by the Russian museum and Mayor of Málaga last year.
The museum branch is situated in ‘La Tabacalera' exhibition centre, former tobacco factory of 1920-s. The space provided for the exhibition purposes is 2300 square meters, which underwent major restoration before the opening of the branch.
The Russian museum complex in ‘La Tabacalera' consists of exhibition rooms, restoration spaces, presentation and conference rooms, souvenir shops and cafeterias. An important part of the complex is the Virtual branch of the Russian museum - educative project, based on the modern digital technologies.
The museum will hold three exhibitions per year - one permanent and two temporary. Currently the visitors can attend the "Russian art of XV-XXth centuries" exhibition which includes about 100 art works from icons of the XVth century to socialist realism, among which are paintings by A.Venetsianov, K.Briullov, A.Ivanov, V.Tropinin, I.Levitan, V.Serov, B.Kustodiev, I.Repin, P.Konchalovsky, V.Kandinsky, O.Rozanova, M.Chagall, A.Rodchenko, K.Malevich and many other famous Russian artists.
Another exhibition on display is "Russian art from the age of Diaghilev", which presents about 70 works by L.Bakst, M.Vrubel, A.Golovin, N.Goncharova, M.Larionov and others. The third exhibition of 2015 will open in summer and will be dedicated to the avant-garde artist Pavel Filonov.
