The
State Russian Museum holds a wonderful collection of portraits by
Valentin Serov (1865-1911), many of which became classic of the
Russian art at the turn of XXth century. On the other hand, Serov
himself used to underline that he was not only a portraitist. The new
exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist,
presents him as a master of historical, genre and landscape painting
and author of the pieces of art which largely anticipated the
experiments of the Russian Avant-garde.
The
exhibition includes about 250 examples of Serov's painting,
sculpture and graphic work from the Russian museum and other
collections. The visitors will be provided with a unique opportunity
to see the panel "Christ walking upon water" performed by
Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin for the parish church of P.
Tretyakov and V. Konshin's manufacture in Kostroma.
The
exhibition is supported by OAO LUKOIL, the Unident Group and the
U-Art Charitable Foundation for Culture, Iveta and Tamaz Manasherov.
