For the last 12 years Mihail
Chemiakin has photographed discarded paper, dead leaves, cigarette butts, spots
of paint, cracks, plantain tree bark and spots on the wall in nocturnal Paris.
The artist found in these photographs fantastic scenes and grotesque
characters. He drew these images with pastel and ink on matte prints of the photographs.
Thus arose a new technique in drawing and a new view of the astounding riches
hidden in the humble, ignored world under our feet.
The exhibition of 210 works in this
technique on various themes, including Theatre, Petersburg, the Civil War, The
Siege of Leningrad, Dances of Death, among others, is accompanied by a
documentary film "Trottoirs of Paris" by Andrei Zagdansky, and
video-installations by Mihail Chemiakin.

Vladimir Koshevoy will read from the works of the OBERIU literary group
active in Russia in the 1920's and 1930's. A.Vvedensky, D.Kharms and
N.Oleinikov were opposed to the slick literary of the establishment, preferring
to experiment with rhyme and rhythm. The concert consists of ten poems read by
theater and film actor Vladimir
Koshevoy, with a contemporary musical accompaniment, in a wide range of
styles, created by composer Max Voitov (Amy
Peters and MultFilmi groups) for
bass, piano and guitar.
