The
exhibition presents the creative oeuvre of Hussein Aliev (1911-1991), the
People's Artist of Azerbaijan, who is recognized on homeland as one of the
founders of the contemporary art in his country. Having received the high
professional education in Leningrad in the Institute of Painting,
Sculpture and Architecture named after I.Repin, Hussein Aliev returned to Azerbaijan
where he lived and worked till his death. The exposition of the exhibition
devoted to the 100th artist's anniversary includes 60 water colors
and monotypes of the 1960-1980's from the private collection.
The
nature of native land was always the main source of inspiration for Hussein
Aliev who had the exceptional susceptibility for the beauty of the world
surrounding. It is no mere chance that the unusual gift of artist who
successfully worked in different genres was so brightly revealed in the sphere
of romantic landscape. The color decision of his works charming by its rhythm,
musicality and subtleness finds its sources in the discoveries of the Russian
and foreign avant-garde of the beginning of the 20th century as well
as in the many-aged artistic heritage of the Azerbaijan people. Transformation
of the reality into the decorative symphony of bright and concentrated colors helps
the author to recreate the symbolic image of the universe fulfilled by powerful
space energy in every single motive.
The exhibition is supported by the Administration of
St. Petersburg, the Representation of the Fund of Heidar Aliev in the Russian
Federation and the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg.
