The Modern Indian
Art. Painting Trajectories exhibition is the attempt
to present the basic tendencies of development of the Indian art from 1850. The
exposition begins with the landscapes, stage portraits of the British period of
the Indian art and unknown Indian painters of the XIX century. Much attention is
given to the interest of the Indian painters in the “Bengal school”, renaissance
of the history of the national art and “Svadeshi”. Large part of the exhibition
is devoted to the Rabindranat Tagor school and to the painters, that are connected
with his teaching about the dissolution in the landscape and applied role
of art in different aspects of the every-day life. The exhibition finishes with
the Indian art of the last third of the XX century and beginning of the XXI century,
that combines the abstract painting language with the interest in the national history
and mythology.
