On the exhibition «From the Collection of Grigory Levitin. 1914-1982» that was organized to the 110th anniversary of the Russian Museum, 35 paintings and 70 graphic works by prominent artists of the first half of the XX century from the collection of the Russian Museum are shown.

Historic part of the Levitin’s collection that is presented on the exhibition unites artists of classic of the beginning of the century – Natalia Goncharova and Boris Grigoryev, Philip Malyavin and Aleksandr Yakovlev, Pyotr Miturich and Pyotr Lvov, Vasily Chekrygin and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. Magnificent gouaches by Vera Yermolaeva and the artworks by the artist Tyshler were the pride of Levitin.

Among paintings that are presented on the exhibition, the artworks by the artists, who were connected with theatre – Natan Altman and Valery Dorrer, Zaven Arshakuni and Feliks Volosyonkov, take a special place. The perfect artworks created by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Aleksei Karev, Aleksandr Rusakov, Aleksei Pakhomov. Close acquaintance of Grigory Levitin with the authors allowed inserting of paintings by Boris Birger, Artur Fonvizin into the collection. They were quite often acquired directly in their studious.

Collection of Grigory Levitin is one of the largest and the most interesting in the Russian Museum collection.

After Levitin’s death, according to his testament, the Russian Museum collection enlarged with 130 paintings and more than 2 thousands graphic works. Thanks to the Levitin’s collection the Russian Museum collection acquired new talented, original, but little-known names.
