Maria Kharlamova was born in Petrograd in 1917 into the family of Matvei Kharlamov, a famous sculptor (1810-1930). She studied at the studio of A. Matveyev, a prominent sculptor and teacher, at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1937-46).
A small exhibition from the Russian Museum collection of modern sculpture demonstrates a wide range of the author's creative aspirations - from philosophically interpreted portrait images to small sculptural studies that became complete works of art in Kharlamova's hands.
