Ladislas Kijno

26 October - 27 November 2006
St Michael's (Engineers) Castle

The Russian Museum presents the one-man show of Ladislas Kijno, one of the most unusual and resourceful representatives of the generation of artists, whom traditionally call 'the artists of the fifties'. He was born in Warsaw in 1921, immigrated to France with his parents in 1925, where later was granted the citizenship. He became famous due to the invention of the "crumpled paper" technique in the 1940s. The exposition includes two sections. The first section with nearly 40 works, including the Punch by Stravinsky in the crumpled paper technique, shows the evolution of his oeuvre from the 1950s to 2006. The second section includes 70 Variations of the Bronze Sculptures by Riace. The show was supported by Antonio Sapone Gallery.
