Pyotr Ossovsky

19 October - 20 November 2006
Marble Palace

Within the framework of the Jubilees cycle the Russian Museum presents the one-man show of Pyotr Ossovsky, the artist who belongs to the generation of the "men of the sixties". He is called the founder of the "harsh style" in the Soviet art. Ordinary people, for example, geologists and builders who developed the vast expanses of Siberia, were the characters of this style. It seems that the artist has been writing a single "story" for the whole life - "the story" about his Mother land and the Russian character. This is the Milestones of the Life of the Motherland series of large-scale historic canvases, the Russian Mothers series of portraits, a series dedicated to the Russian temples and other works.
