ESSENCE OF LIFE ART
Graphic Art of Conceptual Artists of Russia and Eastern Europe (from artists’ studios)

15 June - 17 July 2006
Ludwig Museum in the Russian Museum, Marble Palace

The State Russian Museum offers an exhibition of works from the collection of the artist Jadran Adamović. The exhibition includes over 300 works of graphic art by artists from Central and Eastern Europe: Bosnia, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Russia, Croatia, and Czechia. Adamović selected the artists who are spiritually close to him, whose oeuvre is to a certain extent similar to his due to their common life, historical, and visual experience. Their styles were formed within totalitarian regimes, without any political and aesthetical freedom, and were part of the so-called "unofficial art". All of them witnessed the significant change that occurred in politics, economics, public consciousness, and the state structure of the former socialist countries. The artists presented are active members of contemporary art community, well-known in their own countries, as well as abroad. The majority of Jadran Adamović's 'team' are the key figures of the Conceptual art — Ilya Kabakov, Braco Dmitrijević, Viktor Pivovarov, Igor Makarevich, Elena Elagina, Dmitri Prigov, Marko Kovačič, Eric Bulatov, Alexander Kosolapov, Vlado Martek, Leonid Sokov, Andrei Monastyrsky, Pavel Pepperstein, Julije Knifer, Irwin (Miran Mohar, Dušan Mandić, etc.) Adamović's artworks as well works of such famous Petersburg artists as Olga Tobreluts and Timur Novikov are included in the exhibition. The exhibition was supported by Pliva Pharmaceutical Company.
