The exhibition is held within the framework of the Kurultai (Congress) cultural programme of public unions of Bashkirs of the European part of Russia and Europe. It is dedicated to the 450th anniversary of Bashkiria's joining to Russia. The show comprises 125 graphic works executed in different techniques: watercolours, sanguine, pastels, pencil, charcoal and Indian ink. The works enable to trace the main stages of development of Russian graphic art. The 19th century is presented by Karl Brullov, Hovhannes Aivazovsky, Alexander Orlovsky, Nikolai Sverchkov and Pavel Chistyakov. Works by Mikhail Vrubel, Boris Kustodiev, Nikolai Roerich and sketches for cathedral frescos by Mikhail Nesterov and Victor Vasnetsov attract special attention. The graphic works by Alexander Benois, Alexander Golovin, Boris Grigoriev and Vasily Shukhaev reflect creative impulses of the early 20th century. One of the rooms acquaints with the pride of the Bashkir State Museum of Art - works by Mikhail Nesterov, Valentin Serov and Leonid Pasternak. We consider the works by the artists of Bashkiria of the early 20th century form a harmonious section of the exhibition. It includes works by such artists as Yuly Blumental, Nikolai Protopopov, Lev Petukhov and Kasim Devletkildeyev whose oeuvre had been developing within the framework of Russian graphic art. The show was supported by the Ministry for Culture and National Policy of the Bashkortostan Republic within the framework of the Kurultai (Congress) cultural programme of public unions of Bashkirs of the European part of Russia and Europe.
