The exhibition will showcase works of painting, sculpture, graphics, and applied art from collections of the Russian Museum and museums of Rome, Naples, Florence, and Milan, as well as from private Italian collections. Works included in the exhibition provide evidence of artistic, international, and family contacts established between Russia and Italy in 18-19th cc.
Since mid 18th century relationship between St Petersburg and Italy have been not purely official and have included not only diplomatic missions, delegations and gift exchange between members of royal families. Intricate relationship between different Russian and Italian families let find out interesting facts about artists and people depicted, clients and mediators, as well as destiny of works of art themselves.
The exhibition has been organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italian Republic with the help of the Consulate General of Italy in St Petersburg. It was dated to the tercentenary of St Petersburg.
