Nikolai Akimov Centenary exhibition

This exhibition marks the centenary of the birth of famous Russian theatrical designer and director Nikolai Akimov (1901-1968). It includes works from his family archives and the collections of the Russian Museum, St Petersburg Museum of Theatrical and Musical Art, Union of Artists of Russia, St Petersburg Theatrical Library and the St Petersburg Academic Theatre of Comedy, which Nikolai Akimov headed for twenty-five years. Nikolai Akimov received his professional artistic training at the legendary New Art Studio (1916-18) and VKhUTEMAS (1922). In 1923, he began designing for theatres and the Academia publishing house. Akimov held his first one-man show in 1927 and made his debut as a theatrical producer in 1932. Three years later, he was appointed head of the Leningrad Theatre of Comedy. The exhibition includes set and costume designs, portraits, posters and works of book graphic art.
