STATEMENT

On the Third International Contest of Young Poets Dedicated to the Poet of the Silver Age Konstantin Romanov (“K.R.”)

General Statements

1.1 The contest of young poets of St. Petersburg dedicated to the poet of the Silver Age Konstantin Romanov (“K.R.”) is held to promote Russian painterly arts and literature, architecture, history and Russian language, to rescue and encourage talented young poets, to publish their best works, to help their artistic growth and popularity.

1.2. The contest is organized by the State Russian Museum and the Union of Writers of St. Petersburg. Partner of the contest – the “Lyceum Fund” for the Promotion of Culture.
1.3. The contest is public with preliminary qualification of participants. The preliminary selection of participants is carried out according to the present Statement.
1.4. Time frame of the contest: 2012-2013.
1.5. The organizers of the contest form the organizing committee and appoint its chairman to carry out all the necessary measures and organize events of the contest.
1.6. The poems of the participants of the contest are assessed by the members of the jury. The members of the jury are appointed by the organizers of the contest upon the recommendation of the organizing committee.

      2. Time Frame of the Contest Stages
      2.1. Announcement of the contest: December 1, 2012.
2.2. Acceptance of contest claims: December 15, 2012 – March 15, 2013
2.2. Preliminary selection: March 16 – April 2, 2013
2.3. Assessment by the jury of the contest: April 3 – April 15, 2013
2.4. Announcement and awarding of the winners:  May 16-17, 2013.

    3. Nominations of the Contest
      The Third Contest of Young Poets is timed to the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov
3.1 “Russian Princesses” nomination. This nomination is the main one in the Third contest. The participants may present 3 poems in it. Nomination criteria: the poems should be dedicated to the female members of the Russian Imperial family: Empresses, Grand Duchesses and Grand Princesses. The poems may be influenced by painterly and graphic portraits from the collection of the Russian Museum and historical events linked with women from the Imperial family.

3.2 “Poets, Love Painting!” nomination - 1 poem, dedicated to Russian paintings of all times and styles.

3.3. “Magnificent Saint Petersburg” nomination - 1 poem. The theme of the nomination is St. Petersburg and its history.
3.4. “Competing with Pushkin: the Statue of Tsarskoye Selo” nomination - 1 poem. The poems in this nomination are dedicated to Tsarskoye Selo, Lyceum, life and art of Alexander Pushkin.
3.5. “XXIth Century Romance” nomination  - 1 poem. A lyrical poem on any theme in the form of a romance. In this nomination the participants may also present musical romances with their lyrics. 
3.6 Each participant may present no more than 7 poems.
3.7 The participants are divided into two nomination age groups: from 16 to 22 years old and from 23 to 30 years old.

  1. Criteria for the Participants of the Contest

     4.1. Young poets of Russia, CIS and Europe, 16-30 years old, may participate in the contest after the preliminary selection.
4.2. The preliminary selection is for the aspirants who presented the contest claims according to the present Statement.
4.3. To participate in the contest each aspirant should present the following authentic information to the organizing committee: name, father’s name, surname, age, profession, contact phone number, e-mail, address.
4.4. Members of the organizing committee, members of the jury and reader groups, members of the Union of Writers and the winners of previous contests who received the Grand Prix can’t participate in the present contest.

    5. Presentation of the Contest Claims
     5.1. The claims are to be presented from December 15, 2012 to March 15, 2013.
    5.2. The claims are presented via e-mail according to the rules of the contest. The message should be marked “To the Contest of Konstantin Romanov” otherwise it may be left unread.
5.3 Every author may present only one contest claim in each nomination.
5.4 The general amount of the poems should not exceed 300 lines.

6. Preliminary Selection of the Texts

     6.1. The preliminary selection of the contest participants is carried out by the organizing committee according to the results of the preliminary qualification of the texts by the reader groups.
    6.2. For the preliminary qualification of each text a separate group of 10 independent readers is formed. The members of the group are selected at random with the help of an automated information system.
6.3. The reader groups are formed from the candidates selected by the organizing committee of the contest.
6.4. Each reader gives the preliminary assessment of the text (from 0 to 3 points).
6.5. The preliminary qualification of the texts is anonymous: it means that the readers are given no information about the authors.
6.6. The point total of each text is taken into consideration for the preliminary selection by the organizing committee.

7. Contest Realization

      7.1. The jury consisting of 7 members assesses the contest poems in all nominations.
7.2. Each text is assessed from 0 to 9 points.
7.3. The contest point total is taken into account by the organizing committee when selecting the winner and runners-up in each nomination.
7.4. The organizing committee has the right not to award prizes in a certain nomination if there are no high contest marks in it according the recommendation of the jury members.

8. Announcement and Awarding of the Winners

8.1. Announcement and awarding of the winners and runners-up of the contest takes places at the special ceremony.
8.2. Тhe awarding ceremony takes places in May, in the Marble Palace of the State Russian Museum – in the historical suite of rooms of Konstantin Romanov – on the eve of the International Museums Day. The exact date and time of the ceremony is appointed by the organizers of the contest. The participants are informed about it by the official site of the Russian Museum, the finalists receive personal invitations via e-mail.
8.3. All participants of the contest receive diplomas.
8.4  The winner in the main nomination with high marks in other nomination becomes the winner of the contest Grand Prix.
8.5 The runners-up of the contest who occupy places 1,2 and 3 in each nomination are awarded valuable prizes.

8.6 The selected poems of the finalists of the contest are published in the miscellany given to each participant of the contest.
8.7 The institutions which provide support for the contest may award special prizes to the participants of the contest.
8.8 Readings and evenings with the finalists of the contest will be organized where they will be able to demonstrate all their artistic abilities.
