The publication includes articles by famous Russian and foreign experts, describing the development of art in the Soviet Union during one of the most ambiguous periods of its history between the Thaw and the Perestroika. The illustrated catalogue is divided into two parts: official art (1960) and unofficial art (1960-85). It gives a clear idea on movements, styles and individualities of artists. The publication is supplemented with chronicle of the main events of artistic life in the 1960s-80s; photographs from the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents, the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, artists´ private collections and archives and brief biographies of artists.

This publication introduces Lucio Fonatana, one of the artists of the post-war generation who put Italy in the forefront of the world art, to the Russian public. It comprises articles on all the aspects of the artist's oeuvre, illustrated catalogue, the artist's biography, and selected bibliography.

The works featured represent the Spatialism period of Fontana's oeuvre. He developed this manner, and it was to become the key one in his oeuvre. Included are works from the Space, matter, dynamism, Space as light, Metaphysical and "represented space", End of God, Puppet Theatre, and Space as space series.

St Nicholas of Myra in works of XII-XIX centuries from the State Russian Museum collection.

The catalogue acquaints with the iconography of St Nicholas the Miracle Worker in artworks of the Old Russian art from the Russian Museum funds.

The publication contains the illustrated catalogue as well as articles on the image of the Saint within artistic, liturgical, sepulchral and iconographic traditions and the writing of Old Russia. Several articles are devoted to Old Russian Churches of St Nicholas and the icons of St Nicholas in the St Petersburg churches.

The peculiarity of the publication is the complex approach to the interpretation of the theme, which is evident from the structure of the catalogue including five sections: the Icon Painting, the Embroidery, the Minor Plastics, the Repoussage and the Exemplums. The catalogue also contains the best artworks of the 12th-19th centuries from the funds of the Russian Museum. All the reproduced exhibits have detailed annotations with schemes of the order of the scenes at margins and the index.

The publication has been financed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering.

Large Painting.

The publication comes as a kind of "afterword" for the exhibition of the same title which was held in the Russian Museum in 2004 and introduces large-scale works of art form the Museum collection. It comprises articles, and illustrated catalogue with comprehensive annotations, and brief biographies of the artists. The introductory article discusses the role and meaning of the "large painting" phenomenon in the history of the Russian art. Two other articles are devoted to the large-scale works of the 2nd half of the 19th - 20th centuries from the Museum collection.

The reproductions feature exhibits showcased at the 2004 exhibition along with the works from the permanent display and the ones from museum funds that have never been exhibited before.

The publication introduces the oeuvre of Alexandra Vertinskaya, a young Moscow artist and actor. It comprises articles on the artist's manner and subjects, a catalogue, and an album of illustrations. The album part includes A. Vertinskaya's works of 1992-2000 from the Shells, Summer Garden, Venice, and Flowers series, which are mainly paintings, silk-screens and mixed-media; plus some works of her study years. These are accompanied with the artist's brief biography and the list of major exhibitions she participated in.

The publication is dedicated to the fate and oeuvre of the Leningrad artist Nikolai Ionin, who is little known either by viewers or the experts.

The book includes the article about the artist; recollections of his son, the artist G. Ionin; a fragment from his story Case Report, devoted to the memory of his father; catalogue of artworks with all the works by Nikolai Ionin from the collection of the Russian Museum and the archive of his family and the album of illustrations. The publication is supplemented with brief biography and list of exhibitions, which he contributed to. The album contains the most important artworks by Nikolai Ionin - painting, watercolours and drawings from the catalogue. Most of the artworks have been published for the first time.

Sergei Sharshun

The first publication in Russia acquaints with the oeuvre of the artist, poet and writer Sergei Sharshun, well known in the West, but practically unknown in Russia.

The publication includes articles by foreign art critics on the artist´s creative quests, the album of illustrations, chronicle, bibliography and the list of exhibitions.

The album section contains the most typical artworks of 1916-45 from the Barcelona, Ornamental Cubism, Purism, Dadaistic Landscapes. Elastic Landscapes. Decorative Impressionism, Compositions, Violin Series, Marine Cycle, Tribute to Music. Ellipses and Pyramids, Venice and the Musical Compositions series. Most of the reproduced artworks are accompanied with Sergei Sharshun´s comments and those of the researchers of his oeuvre. The publication is supplemented with the archive photographs. Most of the materials have been published for the first time.

The publication acquaints with the artistic traditions of one of the most interesting regions of the North-West Russian folk art (former Kargopol district of the Olonetsk province).

The compilation includes essays, devoted to artworks of Old Russian painting and sculpture, fretwork and paintwork on wood, clay toy, cubic printed pattern, figured weaving and embroidery from the Museum collection. Each article is supplemented with coloured illustrations and bibliography.

The compilation is dedicated to the memory of Natalia Taranovskaya, famous expert on folk art and one of the oldest curators of the Russian Museum.

The publication contains articles by Russian and foreign art critics, presenting the master´s individuality from different aspects of his oeuvre and life; catalogue with annotations and a brief chronicle.

The catalogue includes paintings, drawings, engravings and works of applied art from the collections of the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery. Most of the works from the catalogue are reproduced in the album section. For the first time most of his paintings have been published with the author´s titles and dates, defined more accurately during the recent research. The catalogue is supplemented with the archive photographs.

André Lanskoy

The publication is dedicated to the artist´s 30th death anniversary. This is the first ever full-scale publication presenting the master´s oeuvre to Russian experts and art lovers.

The book includes articles by foreign art critics on different sides of the artist´s oeuvre, album with illustrations and catalogue information, brief biography and bibliography. The publication is supplemented with fragments of the artist´s thoughts and articles on his oeuvre and archive photographs.

The album section contains the reproduced works by Andre Lanskoy of 1923-76. They feature the creative path of the artist. The series of illustrations (45 gouaches) by Andre Lanskoy for the Genesis is of great interest. The artist created them while working at the text from the Bible in the 1960s. Most of the artworks have been published for the first time.

Russia in New York and Bilbao

The publication accompanying the Russia! exhibition, which was of great success in New York (the USA) and Bilbao (Spain), includes over 300 masterpieces from the collections of the Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, art museums of Russia and private collections. It gives an opportunity to estimate the scale and the range of the exhibition.

The book includes articles by famous Russian art critics on the development of the Russian art from ancient times to present day; an illustrated catalogue with brief annotations and artists´ biographies.

The album of illustrations includes icons of the 12th - 17th centuries, artworks of painting and sculpture of the 18th - 20th centuries, objects of applied art and installations of the 2000s of the 21st century.

Most of the artworks, particularly from the art museums of Russia and private collections have been published for the first time.

Speaking with hands. Photographs from the Henry Buhl collection

The publication acquaints the Russian experts and lovers of photography with the original collection (over 1000 photos of hands) of one of the most famous collectors-photophilists Henry Buhl (the USA).

The book contains an abridged version of the article by Jennifer Blessing, famous American researcher and curator of photo projects of the Guggenheim Museum. The article is devoted to the photographic art as a mean of documentary confirmation of existence of any phenomena; photograph as the genre of art and Genry Buhl´s principles of forming his collection of hands photographs.

The album contains works from daguerreotypes of the 1840s to the series of the Polaroid photographs of 2002, made by photo artists of different countries, including Russia (G. Klutsis, A. Rodchenko). It traces the development of photographic art for over 150 years.

Ladislas Kijno

This is the first ever publication in Russia presenting the oeuvre of a French artist Ladislas Kijno.

It comprises excerpts from opinion of various people on the oeuvre of the master: curators and directors of museums, holding Ladislas Kijno´s exhibitions, art critics, art historians, artists, poets, writers, philosophers, scientists, editors of magazines, producers, composers, journalists and the artist himself. They were published in the monograph on Ladislas Kijno by Raoul-Jean Moulin in 1994 (Cercle d publishing house). The book includes a fragment of the catalogue of Ladislas Kijno´s retrospective in the Palace of Fine Arts (Lille, 2002), album of illustrations and short biography of the artist. These excerpts and fragments give a comprehensive characteristic of the artist´s creative quests.

The article section reproduces Ladislas Kijno´s works of 1956-2005, the album section reproduces Variations of the Bronze Sculptures by Riace two series of works of 1981-82. The book is supplemented with photographs from the family and his friends´ archives.

Nikolai Andronov. Natalia Egorshina
